I’m New!

So your daughter came home and said “I want to play lacrosse!” Now you are thinking “what is lacrosse?” and “what do you need to play lacrosse?” I’m here to help. Lacrosse is blend of basketball, soccer and hockey. Often referred to as the fastest game on two feet. North High School is a no cut organization that has players from 6th - 12 grade competing at the junior high, junior varsity and varsity levels. Previously a club sport, girls lacrosse entered emerging status with the IHSAA in 2025. With continued support and growth girls lacrosse will hopefully become an IHSAA sanctioned sport.

Ok, so now that you have an idea of what lacrosse is what does your daughter need to play? She will need a stick, goggles, cleats and a mouth guard. There are varying levels of sticks at different price points. A beginner stick is good for younger players but they will grow out of a beginner stick. We don’t suggest going out and buying a $300 stick just to see if your daughter is going to stick with it. But if she does fall in love with the sport, a more advanced stick with help her with passing and catching and ultimately make the game easier for her. Goggles come in different styles and colors. Look for comfort but make sure they have the SEI certification mark. This logo or stamp proves they pass the elite level ball and stick impact standards. Any cleats are fine, most players will wear football or soccer cleats. Mouth guards are mandatory for all players. Some offer extra dental coverage if something were to happen while wearing. All mouth guards must be a visible color, not white or clear.

Hopefully that answers some of your questions, but if you have more please send me an email. I’m happy to help!
